Top Cement

We've been working out of this spot in Shillong for a good while now. Top Cement isn't some giant corporation with hundreds of offices; it’s just us here at Bimal Chandra Kar’s place in Meghalaya. If you know the 793004 area, you probably know where we are. It’s a pretty straightforward setup. We spend most of our mornings just getting things ready for the day and checking on what needs to be moved. Living and working in a place like Shillong means you have to deal with the rain and the hills, which definitely keeps things interesting. We don’t really go in for those big, shiny brochures or polished mission statements you see elsewhere. It’s mostly just us doing the work that needs doing. Sometimes the phone rings off the hook and other times it’s quiet enough to actually hear the birds outside. We’ve had some long days, especially when the weather turns, but that’s just part of being here. We try to keep things simple. You won't find any fancy suits or boardrooms in our office. It’s more about the practical side of things. Most people in the neighborhood know where to find us if they need anything. We just keep to our routine, get the cement where it needs to go, and try to stay organized. It’s a small operation, and we like it that way because we can actually talk to people without a bunch of red tape. We just get on with it.
