For Lafarge Umiam Mining Private Limited, our office is in Shillong, tucked away in the Nongrimmow area at a place called Lumlang. If you know where the Assam Rifles post is, we are quite close to that. It is a rainy part of the world, so the office often feels a bit damp, but we have been here long enough that it doesn't bother us much. We handle the mining side of things for the East Khasi Hills region. It is a lot of logistics and keeping track of what is happening out at the sites. The staff here are mostly from around the local area. We spend a lot of time on the phone or dealing with the paperwork for the trucks. It is not a polished corporate office. We have wooden chairs and some old filing cabinets that are starting to rust a bit. People come in with mud on their boots from the field, and that is just how it is. We try to keep things organized, but when it is busy, the desks get covered in maps and reports. Sometimes the power goes out in Shillong, and we just sit and wait or talk until it comes back on. It is a quiet neighborhood for the most part, which is nice when things get stressful. We just focus on the daily tasks and making sure the operations run as smoothly as they can in the hills. Most of us have been working together for years, so we have a good rhythm.
