Jmd Spices

We are over at 24-9-100 on Narasimha Swamy Temple Road. Our place, Jmd Spices, is in the R Agraharam area. Being on the temple road means it’s almost always busy. There are people walking by all the time and the sound of bells and traffic is just part of our day. We work with spices, so the smell is everywhere. You can probably smell the turmeric or the chili from a block away. It’s a small shop and work area. We don’t have any fancy displays. Most of the space is taken up by sacks of raw spices and the grinders we use. It gets quite dusty, so we spend a lot of time sweeping. My brother and I run the place mostly. We started it because we knew a lot about spices from our parents. We aren't trying to be some massive corporation. We just want to make sure the spices we sell are the same ones we’d want to eat. Sometimes the heat in the summer makes the work even harder, especially with the grinders running, but we just drink a lot of water and keep at it. R Agraharam is a good community and we like being here. People stop by to chat as much as they do to buy stuff. It’s a very local way of doing things, and that suits us just fine.
