Karkees Construction and General Maintainance is based over at House No. Gtk/005/C/5(6) in Balwakhani, Gangtok. Being up here in Sikkim, things work a little differently than in the plains. We do construction but also a lot of general maintenance work because buildings up here take a beating from the weather. The address can be a bit tricky for people to find the first time, but we are a local fixture in the Balwakhani area. We are an OPC, so it is a pretty tight operation without a lot of layers. We do not have a fancy office with glass walls. It is a practical space where we store our tools and handle the books. Working in Gangtok means dealing with hills and rain a lot of the time. We just get on with it. Whether it is fixing a roof or starting a new small build, we just take it as it comes. We are not out here trying to win awards or anything. We just want to do a decent job so people call us back next time something breaks. The Darjeeling and West Bengal borders are not far, so we see a lot of people passing through. It is a small community and we like it that way. Most of our work comes from people just knowing who we are. We do not bother with big ads or polished speeches. It is just us doing the daily work and trying to stay dry when the clouds roll in.
