Zaid Fish Centre

We are located in the Ghazipur fish market, specifically in the Shaheed Ashfaqullah Khan section. If you have ever been to a fish market, you know it is a loud and wet place. We start our day very early, long before the sun comes up, when the trucks arrive with the fresh catch. It is a lot of work hauling crates and getting everything set up on the ice. We sell all kinds of fish, whatever is in season and looks good that morning. The ground is always damp and there is a constant noise of people bargaining and shouting across the aisles. It is not for everyone, but we have been doing this for a long time. Our stall isn’t very big, but we try to keep it organized so people can see what we have. We spend a lot of time cleaning and cutting fish for customers who don’t want to do it themselves at home. By the afternoon, things start to slow down and we begin the process of cleaning up for the next day. It’s a tough job and our hands are always cold from the ice. We get regulars who come every week because they know where we sit in the market. The air smells like the sea and the work is physical, but it’s a living. We don’t have a website or anything like that, just the stall here in Ghazipur. It is what it is, just honest daily work.
