Tanva Creative Dance Ensemble

We are located above the J & K Bank in the Acharya Niketan Market, which is a pretty busy spot in Mayur Vihar Phase I. You have to walk up the stairs in Veer Complex to get to us. The studio has these big mirrors on the wall which we have to wipe down all the time because of fingerprints. The floor is made of wood, and it’s seen a lot of use over the years. You can hear the muffled sound of the market downstairs, but it’s mostly drowned out by whatever music we’re playing. We have a small area where people leave their shoes and bags before they get on the floor. It gets quite warm when there’s a full group dancing, so we keep the windows open when the weather allows it. The curtains are a bit dusty, and the paint is peeling a little in the corners, but nobody really looks at that when they’re moving. It’s a creative space, so things are a bit messy sometimes. We have some costumes stuffed into cupboards and props leaning against the walls. It’s not a corporate office, it’s a place where people actually work and sweat. Sometimes the music system acts up and we have to fiddle with the wires to get it going. That’s just part of being here in Veer Complex. It’s a practical space for people who just want to dance and not worry about how fancy the building is.
