About S. .S Glass House – Metals & Minerals in East Delhi
We have been at 17, Mahila Colony for a long time now. It’s a busy spot in Gandhi Nagar and there’s always something happening outside on the street. S. .S Glass House is basically where we spend most of our daylight hours. Most days start with moving some of the larger glass sheets around so we have enough space to work. It’s a bit cramped inside but we make it work. We handle all sorts of glass, from the thin stuff for picture frames to the thicker panes for windows. Sometimes people come in with a broken mirror and ask if we can cut a new piece to fit the old frame. We have the cutters and the tables set up in the back. It gets pretty dusty with the glass particles, so we’re always sweeping up the floor. There are a few of us here. One person usually handles the cutting while another talks to whoever walks in from the colony. We don’t have fancy displays or anything like that. It is just a workspace with stacks of glass against the walls. We try to get things done when we say we will, though sometimes the deliveries are late or a piece breaks while we are working on it. That’s just how it goes with glass. We drink a lot of tea while we wait for the next job to come through the door. It’s a straightforward life here.
