Gayatri Dental Clinic

This clinic is right in Kondli, Delhi, near the Main Sabji Mandi. If you’ve ever been to that market, you know how it gets on a Tuesday. It is loud and there are people everywhere with their heavy bags of vegetables. We’re right there in the middle of all that action. Gayatri Dental Clinic is what the sign says above the door. We open up pretty early because that’s when the market is busiest and folks are out. Some people come in before they go to work because their tooth started hurting in the middle of the night. It smells like the market outside, lots of fresh coriander and sometimes rotting onions. Inside, it’s just the usual dental chairs and some metal tools. We don’t have a big fancy lobby with a TV. Just a few blue plastic chairs for people to sit on while they wait their turn. The floors need a lot of sweeping because of the mud people bring in from the street. It’s Delhi, so everything is always a bit dusty no matter what you do. We see a lot of kids from the neighborhood too. Their parents bring them in after school is over. It’s a simple life for us here. We aren't trying to do anything huge, just fixing teeth and making sure people aren't in pain. The fan in the corner makes a clicking sound but it keeps the air moving. Sometimes we talk about the price of tomatoes or what’s happening on the street while we work.
