G S Cottex Company Llp is based in the Vikas Deep Building at the Laxmi Nagar District Centre. We are up on the seventh floor, in room 716. Since it’s a big commercial building, it’s always full of people and the elevators are usually crowded. We deal with cotton and textiles, so the office smells a bit like raw fabric most of the time. There are samples everywhere and we often run out of shelf space. Laxmi Nagar is a very hectic part of East Delhi, and the noise from the traffic outside reaches us even on the seventh floor. We’ve been here for a while and we’ve seen a lot of other businesses come and go. It’s a competitive area, but we just stick to what we know and keep working through our lists. We don't have any fancy office furniture or a high-tech setup. It's just desks, chairs, and a lot of filing cabinets. We take turns making tea for everyone in the afternoon. It’s a simple routine but it works for us. We spend a lot of time talking to traders and checking the quality of the cotton batches we handle. It's a lot of manual tracking and phone calls. We don't use any big marketing slogans, we just tell people what we have and where we are located. Our daily work isn't fancy, but it keeps us busy and the bills paid.
