El Jeffa Foundation

El Jeffa Foundation is based at H.No-A 155 on the third floor in Surajmal Vihar. It’s a nice enough area in East Delhi. Since we are on the top floor, we have to walk up quite a few stairs every morning, which keeps us in shape I guess. The office is basically a converted flat. We use the different rooms for different parts of our work. One room is full of files, another has the computers, and the kitchen is where we sit and talk through our plans for the week. It’s not a polished corporate office with a lobby or a sign out front. We just have a small nameplate on the door. We spend most of our time out in the field, so the office is really just a place to touch base and get the paperwork sorted. We’ve been here for a couple of years now. Most of the people working here are friends or family members who wanted to help out. We don’t have a big budget, so we do everything ourselves, from cleaning the floors to answering the phones. It gets a bit chaotic sometimes when we have a big project going on, but we usually manage to stay on top of things. We just want to do some good in the city. It’s a simple setup, but it works for us. In the summer, the roof gets quite hot, so we try to get most of our work done early.
