Being in Mandawali means we are right in a very crowded and energetic part of the city. The Disaster Research And Environment Alliance Management Foundation office is tucked away up some narrow stairs. It’s a simple floor with a few rooms. We have desks covered in papers, some old maps, and a few computers. It can get quite hot in the summer months, but we have some old fans that keep the air moving around. From the small balcony, you can see all the electrical wires and the busy life of the gali below. There’s always the sound of scooters and people talking down on the street. It’s not a quiet corporate environment, but it’s real. We like it this way because it keeps us connected to the neighborhood. We’ve been here for several years and know the rhythms of the street. Finding A-138 can be a challenge if you don't know the local landmarks, so we usually tell people to look for Nehru Gali first. It’s a modest setup for a foundation.
