Utkarsh Rice Mill

Out here in Kachandur, past the post office in Karanja Bhilai, we run the rice mill. It’s a pretty straightforward operation. We take the paddy, run it through the machines, and get the rice ready for people to eat. The building is big enough to hold the machinery and all the bags of grain that pile up. It gets quite warm inside during the summer, but the work doesn't stop. We usually start early in the morning when it’s still a bit cool. Most of the people working here live nearby in the village. It’s not a shiny new factory, just a place where we do honest work. We deal with a lot of different varieties of rice depending on what the farmers are growing that season. There’s always someone coming by to check on their order or to see if we have space for more grain. We don't do much advertising; word of mouth is usually how people find us in Kachandur. The roads can be a bit bumpy getting out here, but the trucks manage just fine. We just try to keep the equipment running smooth so there aren't too many breakdowns. It’s a lot of lifting and watching the gauges. That’s the daily life at Utkarsh Rice Mill. We’re just a part of the local scene here. Our door is usually open as long as the sun is up.
