Shree Gur Udyog is located in Kawardha, right on the Main Road. We are very easy to find because we are near the Hanuman Mandir. You can hear the bells and the prayers every morning and evening. Our work revolves around making jaggery, or gur as we call it here. The process is very traditional. We have big iron pans where we boil the sugarcane juice until it thickens. It’s hot and sweaty work. The steam fills up the whole shed. We don’t have any modern air conditioning or fancy machines. It’s mostly just firewood and manual labor. The Main Road is always full of life. Tractors loaded with sugarcane come by and drop off the stalks for us. We spend most of our day checking the temperature and making sure the gur doesn't burn. It’s a delicate balance even though it looks rough. We have a few simple rooms at our address where we store the finished product. The floor is made of stone and it often gets covered in bits of cane. We don't mind the mess. It's part of the job. People from all over Kawardha stop by on their way home from the temple. We sell it in big chunks or smaller blocks. It’s just how things are done here. It’s a simple life on the Main Road, and we’ve been here at this Kawardha spot for many seasons now.
