Rashmi Art House is tucked inside the New Janta Market in Durg. If you know the market, you know it gets pretty crowded, especially on the weekends when everyone is out doing their shopping. We have been working from this small space for some time. It is not a huge gallery or anything like that. It’s more of a workshop where things get done. The walls are mostly covered with whatever project we are currently working on. Durg is a busy place and being right in the middle of Janta Market means we see all sorts of people walking by. Sometimes the noise from the main road drifts in, but mostly we just focus on the art and the customers who drop by to ask questions. There is a specific kind of energy in a local market that you don’t get in a big mall. We know the tea stall guy nearby and the other shopkeepers around our unit. The lighting in here isn't the best, but we've added some extra bulbs so we can see the details of our work properly. It’s a simple setup with a couple of tables and storage for materials. Most of our day is spent handling orders or just tidying up the brushes and paints. It’s a bit messy sometimes, but that is just how an art house looks when people are actually working. We really enjoy the fact that Durg has so many people who appreciate what we do here in our corner of the market.
