Down in Bhendsar, specifically in the Durg Sadar Bazar area, you’ll find Prakash Spices. We are located near the station railway, which makes it easy for us to get our supplies in and out. The bazar is an old part of town, and it has that specific feel to it where everyone knows everyone else’s business. Our shop is one of those places where the shelves are packed high with bags and containers. It’s not a fancy showroom. We focus on the spices themselves. The air inside always has a bit of a kick to it from the chilies and peppers we handle. Sometimes it makes the new folks sneeze when they first walk in. We’ve spent years learning the different smells and textures of the goods we sell. It’s a family-run kind of vibe, even if we aren't all related. We drink a lot of tea while we work and talk to the regulars who come in for their monthly supply. The floors are concrete and the lighting is just basic, but it serves the purpose. When the trains go by, the whole building vibrates just a little bit. We’ve gotten used to it over the years. It’s just part of the atmosphere here in Sadar Bazar. We keep the doors open most of the day to let the air circulate, and you can hear the hustle of the market outside. It is a busy life but it is ours.
