Maa Danteshwari Poha Udyog

We are set up in the Tiknar Industrial Area, right next to National Highway 216. Being so close to the highway makes it easy for the trucks to come in and out, though the noise from the traffic never really stops. Maa Danteshwari Poha Udyog is basically a large shed where we turn paddy into poha. It is a messy process sometimes, with plenty of steam and heat, but that is how you get the texture right. We spend a lot of time cleaning the grains and making sure the rollers are set to the right thickness. If you walk inside, you will see bags of rice stacked all the way to the ceiling. Most of us here grew up in the surrounding villages, so we know each other well. We eat lunch together sitting on the wooden crates when the machines are off for a break. The air smells like toasted rice most of the day. We don't use any fancy computers to run the place, just old-fashioned switches and a lot of manual labor. Sometimes the highway gets blocked by a breakdown, and we have to sit around and wait for our deliveries, which can be frustrating. But usually, things move along at a steady pace. We take care of our equipment because if a belt snaps, the whole day is ruined. It is just us doing what we know how to do, day in and day out, without making a big fuss about it for anybody.
