Bhoramdev Sah Sugar Factory

Out here in Post Pondi, things move according to the harvest. The sugar factory is a big part of life in the Kawardha area of Kabirdham. You can usually smell the cane being processed long before you reach the gates. It is hard work, and the machines are loud, but that is how a factory runs. We have people coming in from all the nearby villages to work the shifts. The yard gets crowded with trucks and tractors bringing in the raw sugarcane from the fields. Everything is covered in a bit of dust, and there’s always something that needs fixing or oiling. We don't have a corporate office with air conditioning; we spend our time on the floor or in the loading areas. The weather out here in Chhattisgarh can get really hot, which makes the work even tougher, but the guys just get on with it. We follow the rhythm of the seasons. When the cane is ready, we are working around the clock. When it’s not, we spend time on maintenance and getting ready for the next crush. It’s a simple, honest way to make a living, even if it leaves you tired at the end of the shift. We’ve been part of this landscape for a while now, and the factory is just a steady fixture in the lives of the people around here.
