At Prince Battery House on Sagwada Road, things are usually pretty greasy and heavy. I deal with all kinds of batteries, mostly for cars, motorcycles, and those big ones people use for their power backups at home. The shop is filled with the smell of lead and acid sometimes, which is just part of the job. I spend a lot of my time testing old batteries to see if they can still hold a charge or if they are completely dead. It’s a lot of lifting, so my back usually hurts by the end of the day. Sagwada Road is a busy area with a lot of traffic passing by, so I get quite a few people dropping in when their vehicle won't start suddenly. I keep a stack of new batteries ready, but I also do repairs when it’s possible to save some money. It's not a clean job, my hands are almost always black from the terminals and the dirt under the hoods of cars. I have a few tools scattered around the workbench, and sometimes it takes me a minute to find the right wrench. I’ve been working here for a long time and I’ve seen all sorts of battery problems. I don't really do much talking, I just focus on getting the job done so people can get back on the road. The shop isn't much to look at, just a practical place for people who have battery trouble.
