J & K State Government

This office for the J & K State Government is located up here in Kharkoot. If you know the Banihal area, it is right in the heart of the Tehsil. We are based out of Ramban district. The weather gets quite cold in the winter months, so we keep the heaters going when the snow starts falling on the surrounding hills. People from around the village come by when they need papers sorted or have questions about local matters. It is a simple place with desks and files everywhere. You will find us near the main road that runs through the district. Our address is 182146 for the mail. Being part of the J & K State Government means we deal with a lot of different things every day. Some days are quiet, just us drinking tea and catching up on paperwork, while other days the office is packed with folks from the neighboring areas. Banihal is a busy spot because of the tunnel and the trains, so there is always movement outside. We have been in this spot for a while now. Most people in Kharkoot know where the building is. We do not have any fancy signs or big glass windows, just a plain building that serves the local community. It is practical and does what it needs to do. If you are walking through the district, you will probably see our door open most mornings. We just try to get through the daily tasks like everyone else here in the mountains.
