Gyankendra Foundation

You can find Gyankendra Foundation over in the New Market area of Bhallesa, which is part of Doda. We are set up at Arpan Singh’s place. It’s a bit of a climb to get out here sometimes, but this is where we belong. Bhalessa is a rugged place and the people here are tough, but everyone needs a bit of support now and then. We aren't some big organization from the city. We are locals who grew up in these hills. We started this because we wanted to see more opportunities for the people living in Doda. It is mostly about sharing what we know and helping out where we see gaps. The office is just a simple room where we keep our files and meet people. It gets quite cold in the winter, but we stay busy regardless of the weather. We don't have a lot of fancy equipment. Most of our work is done through word of mouth and face-to-face meetings. That’s how things work in Bhallesa anyway. We just want to make sure that folks in our community aren't forgotten. It’s a slow process, building something from the ground up, but we are patient. We are just a few people trying to make a small difference in this corner of Jammu and Kashmir. If you are ever in the New Market area, stop by and say hello to us.
