L B I Brick

We are located at House No. 2 in Jakhla Bandha, right near St. George's High School. It’s a well-known landmark in the Nagaon district. Our work revolves around bricks. We spend most of the day dealing with the kilns and the stacks of finished bricks waiting to be hauled off. It’s a lot of physical labor. You can hear the school bell from where we work, which helps us keep track of time. The mud and the fire are basically our lives here at L B I Brick. Some days are harder than others, especially when the rain hits and we have to cover everything up quickly. We don’t have fancy equipment, just the stuff that has worked for years. The crew is mostly local people from around Nagaon. We know who needs what for their house repairs or new walls. We don't use a lot of big words to describe what we do. We make bricks, we stack them, and we sell them. It’s a dusty job and your hands get calloused, but it’s a steady way to earn. We keep our records in a ledger book in the small office. Sometimes the delivery trucks get stuck in the mud if it’s been raining, but we help push them out. It’s just how things are in Jakhla Bandha. We are here every day. No big surprises, just bricks and hard work for the local builders who need solid materials for their projects.
