About Gopal Dal Mill – Food & Beverages in Dinhata
Down here in Barobisha, we run the Gopal Dal Mill. It is a quiet enough place compared to the big cities, but the mill itself makes plenty of noise when the machines are on. We deal with the local pulses, processing them so they are ready for the kitchen. The building is simple, just enough to house the machinery and keep the rain off the sacks of grain. We spend the day monitoring the hulling and splitting process. It’s repetitive work, but it has to be done carefully so the quality is okay. Barobisha is our home, and most of us working here live just a short walk away. You can hear the hum of the mill from down the road when things are busy. We don't have a marketing team or anything like that. We just focus on the dal and getting the bags loaded onto the local transport. Sometimes the electricity goes out and everything stops, which gives us a bit of a break, but then we have to work twice as fast once it comes back. It is a lot of lifting and sweeping up the husks that fall everywhere. We are just a local mill trying to keep up with the demand from the nearby markets. There is always a pile of grain waiting to be processed, so we stay pretty busy throughout the year. It is honest work and we are used to the long hours.
