You can find us in Cooch Behar, right on Dinhata Road near the local electric office. It is a good landmark because everyone in town knows where that is. Sankar Sarkar helps keep everything running smooth here. The mill is located in Newtown, which is a fairly busy part of the area. We get a lot of traffic passing by our gates every day. It is a bit different from the quiet village mills because we are right in the thick of things. The noise does not seem to bother the neighbors too much since they have been used to it for years. We spend our days unloading trucks and making sure the grain is dry enough to process. It is a lot of checking things and then double-checking them again. We do not have a big corporate structure or fancy titles. It is just a group of us trying to make a decent living. The building is getting old and it could probably use a new coat of paint, but it is sturdy enough for the work. We focus more on what is happening inside the walls. Sometimes the machines act up and we have a very late night trying to get them back online. That is just part of being in this business. We do not use fancy words to describe what we do here. We just mill rice. People come by for a chat and we offer tea when we can.
