T.S. Alagarsamy Iyer & Sons

Our place is located on Mengles Road, specifically at 44B/31 in Nagal Nagar. It is a busy stretch of road and there is always the sound of horns and bikes passing by our front door. T.S. Alagarsamy Iyer & Sons has been around for quite some time, and the name on the board is starting to fade a little bit from the sun. The building itself is older, with high ceilings and those big heavy doors that you have to lean into to get them to open. Inside, there is a distinct smell of old paper and ink because we still keep a lot of physical records in the tall cupboards against the back wall. My father and his father before him used to sit at the same big desk near the window. We spend most of the day talking to people who walk in or handling things over the phone. It isn't a high-tech office with glowing lights and glass walls. We have a few plastic chairs for visitors and a ceiling fan that wobbles a bit if you turn it up to the highest setting. Around lunchtime, the whole place smells like whatever someone brought from home in their tiffin. We don't really bother with big meetings or fancy presentations. We just handle the daily business as it comes, making sure we write everything down correctly in the ledgers. It is a simple kind of life here in this part of town.
