The Carlton

Kodaikanal is known for the lake, and we are right there on Lake Road. The Carlton has been sitting on this spot for a long time. You can walk out the front and be at the water in just a minute. The air up here is always a bit damp and cool, which is why people like it. Our building has a bit of an old-fashioned look to it, with lots of stone and wood. It can get a bit chilly in the corridors during the winter months. We have a lot of garden space, though the grass does not always stay perfectly green when the weather gets harsh. People come here to get away from the heat in the plains. You can hear the sounds of the horses and the cycles on the road outside. It is a very touristy area, so it gets crowded on weekends. The rooms are large, but they have that old smell of wood and perhaps a bit of dust. We try to keep the fireplaces going when it is cold. It is not a modern glass building; it is more like a piece of the town’s history. Sometimes the mist is so thick you can’t even see the lake from the porch. We just wait for the sun to come out and clear it up. It is a slow kind of place to be, and we like it that way. The pin code here is 624101.
