307 P V K Street is where you will find Texmex Fashion. It’s a narrow street but it stays busy with people and carts all day long. We work in a building that has a lot of history to it. You can see the wear on the wooden doorframe from years of use. Inside, it’s all about the clothes and the fabric. We have racks of things waiting to be checked and big bags ready for delivery. It’s not the kind of place with a fancy showroom. We are more about the actual making and sorting. The light comes in through the top windows and hits the dust motes in the air. We usually listen to the radio while we work. It keeps the energy up during the long, hot afternoons. P V K Street has its own character, with the neighbors always shouting hello as they pass. We handle the fashion side of things, but it’s more about the grit than the glamour. There’s a lot of lint on our clothes by the end of the shift. We use old wooden tables for cutting and folding because they are sturdy. It feels like honest work. We don’t spend money on fancy furniture when the old stuff works just fine. If a machine breaks, one of us usually knows how to fix it with a bit of oil. We just keep moving. It’s a small team, so everyone knows what needs to be done. There is always a lot to do.
