Sri Murugan Soda Company

Sri Murugan Soda Company is over at No 1/22, Akragaaram. It’s in Thenkarai, which is part of the Madurai District. It’s a traditional kind of area. The building at No 1/22 is old. It has high ceilings and the walls are thick. It stays a bit cooler inside than out on the street. Madurai gets very hot so that’s a good thing. We have been working at Sri Murugan Soda Company for a long time. It’s a family kind of thing, though we don't talk about it much. We just get on with the day. The mornings are for washing things down and getting the stock counted. Akragaaram is a narrow enough street. You have to be careful where you park the cycles. We know everyone around here. Thenkarai is a place where people remember your name. We don't have any big machines that do everything. A lot of it is still done by hand. It takes longer but it's the way we’ve always done it. The floor is made of old stone and it’s worn down in the middle from all the walking. We don't have a website or anything like that. People just know we are here at No 1/22. It’s a simple life. We start early and we finish when the work is done. That’s the story here. We sometimes sit outside on the stone steps for five minutes when it's quiet. The heat is always there.
