Sangaiya Malaigai

Sangaiya Malaigai is located right in the middle of Dindigul Bazaar on Agraharam Palani Road. If you know the bazaar, you know it’s always crowded and loud with people shouting and bikes squeezing through. Our shop is packed with bags of spices and different kinds of grains. The smell of pepper and dried chilies is always in the air here. We spend the day measuring out stuff for customers who have been coming to us for years. It’s a bit dark inside because the buildings are so close together, but we like it that way. The wooden counters have been there forever and have some dents in them. We don’t have much room to move around behind the counter, especially when we have new sacks of rice stacked up. Sometimes the rain floods the street a little, and we have to make sure the door is blocked. It’s a traditional way of doing things, nothing fancy or modern about it. You get used to the noise of the market after a while. Most of the work is just heavy lifting and talking to the regulars about how their families are doing. We keep a ledger for the regular accounts and it’s mostly full of scribbles. It’s just how a bazaar shop is supposed to be. The ceiling fan wobbles a bit but it still works.
