Pappa Oil Mills

Pappa Oil Mills is located at 98 Dindigal Road in the town of Singampundari. Being right on the main road means we get a lot of noise and dust from the vehicles passing by all day. The mill is a very functional place, designed for pressing oil out of different seeds and nuts. We have some heavy machinery that takes up most of the space, and it makes a loud rhythmic sound when it's running. The floor is made of old stone and it is pretty much permanently stained with oil, which is just how these places are. We don't have a proper office or any air conditioning. There is just a small wooden desk in the corner where we keep our records and a few chairs for when customers want to sit and wait. It is a family business, and we have all learned how to fix the machines when they act up. The work is physically demanding, involving a lot of lifting and pouring, but it’s what we know how to do. Singampundari is a small place where news travels fast, so we don't really need to advertise. People know we are here on Dindigal Road and they bring their crops to us when the time is right. It’s a greasy, loud environment, and we usually go home covered in the smell of oil. We just focus on doing the work properly and keeping the old machines running for another season.
