Our place is at the S. G. J. Commercial Complex on Periyakulam Road in the Dindigul district. It’s quite a way out in Ammayanaya, so things are a bit different here than in the big city. We have a good amount of space in the unit, No. 8-1-172, where we keep the machines running most of the day. The road outside gets very dusty when the wind picks up, but it’s a main route so we get our materials delivered easily enough. We have a small group of guys working here who know the routine by heart now. It gets hot inside during the summer months, but we have big fans that help a little. We make different things here and keep them stacked up in the corner until the transport arrives. There is always a smell of raw materials in the air, which you get used to after a few days. We don’t have a big fancy office, just a small cabin with a table and a couple of plastic chairs for when someone visits. Most of the time we are out on the floor making sure things are being made correctly. The tea break at four is the highlight of the afternoon for everyone. We try to finish our batches on time so we can close up before it gets too dark. It’s hard work, but it keeps us busy and the business going. We just do our work and go home.
