Bengal Handicrafts

We are located right near the bus stand on Valgha Valamudan Street. It’s inside the V.G.S. Meeting Hall Mansion at number 3. It’s a handy spot because people waiting for their bus often wander in to kill some time. Bengal Handicrafts is mostly just a room full of things from back home. We have these woven mats, small statues, and embroidered cloths. Since we are so close to the station, it stays pretty noisy with the horns and the conductors shouting out destinations. We’ve been in this building for several years now. The walls are a bit faded, and the floorboards creak when you walk to the back. We try to keep things organized, but when we get a big box of stock, it ends up sitting in the middle of the floor for a few days. My brother usually handles the customers while I work on the inventory. We don’t have fancy lighting or anything like that. We just use the natural light from the front door as much as we can. It’s a simple way to earn a living. We see a lot of different faces every day, people from all over the country passing through. Most people buy a small trinket to take home as a gift. We wrap everything in brown paper and tie it with string. It’s not a fast-paced business, just steady and honest work in a busy part of town and we enjoy the daily chaos.
