Ayya Store

You can find us located on Convent Road up here in Kodaikanal. The weather stays quite cool for most of the year, so we never had a need for fans like the shops down in the valley. We often get thick mist rolling in through the open door during the rainy months, which makes everything feel a bit damp. The shop is tucked away a little bit from the main tourist markets, which I prefer because it stays much quieter. We carry all the basic groceries and common household items that the local families need. I have lived here in Kodai my entire life, and this store has been my main focus for a long time now. The wooden shelves are quite old and they make a creaking sound if you put too many heavy bags on them at once. We have one small window at the back that looks out toward some tall trees and the hillside. It is a peaceful enough place to spend the day. Sometimes tourists wander in looking for directions or a quick snack while they are walking along the road. We try to keep a bit of everything in stock, but our floor space is quite limited. The road right outside is very steep, so we often see people catching their breath as they walk past. We open up around nine and usually close when the sun starts to set and the air gets too chilly.
