Seven Sisters Tea Workers Welfare Service Association

Seven Sisters Tea Workers Welfare Service Association is based out of Bokel. We are right near the L.P. School in the Lahoal area of Dibrugarh. If you know the post office in Lahoal, we aren't far from there at all. This association was started because the tea workers around here needed a way to look after their own interests. It isn't a fancy setup. We mostly meet in a simple building and talk about what’s going on in the gardens. Dibrugarh is famous for its tea, but the people who work the ground don't always have it easy. We try to provide a service that actually helps with their welfare. Sometimes that means helping with paperwork or just being a place where they can come and talk. We don't have a big budget or a team of experts. It’s just people from the community helping other people from the community. The school nearby is always noisy with kids, which we like. It reminds us why we do this work. We've been in Lahoal for quite some time now and we've seen a lot of changes in the tea estates. Our goal isn't to be a huge organization. We just want to be useful to the workers right here in Bokel and the surrounding spots. It’s plain and simple work, and we don't try to make it sound like anything more than that. We just do what we can.
