Homegrown Tea Co. is based right on the Chenijan Tea Estate. Living and working on an estate is different from being in the city. You are surrounded by the plants all day long and the cycle of the seasons. The air here feels a bit different, especially in the early mornings when the dew is still heavy on the leaves. We do not have a fancy office building; we just use one of the older structures on the grounds that has been there for years. It has thick walls and stays relatively cool even when the sun is out in the middle of summer. Our daily routine is tied directly to the cycles of the estate. We spend a lot of time walking between the rows of bushes and checking on how things are growing. It is not a desk job for the most part of the day. We have mud on our boots more often than not. The people who work here live nearby, and many have been on this estate for generations. There is a sense of history in the soil and the way things are done. We do not use a lot of big words to describe what we do. We just grow tea and make sure it is handled with some care before it goes off to be processed. It is quiet work, away from the noise of the big towns. Sometimes the only sound you hear is the birds or the wind. We like it that way.
