Setting up shop at Plot No. D-133 in the M.I.D.C. area of Avdhan seemed like the right move years ago. Shiv Hydraulics has always been about getting our hands dirty with hoses, pumps, and all the oil that comes with them. It’s pretty hot out here in this industrial zone, especially during the summer months when the sun beats down on the metal roof. We spend most of our time taking things apart and putting them back together again. You learn a lot about how things work when you have to figure out why a hydraulic press isn't moving or why a seal keeps failing. It’s messy work. My clothes usually have oil stains by noon, and the smell of hydraulic fluid is something you never really get out of your nose. We don’t have a big front office or anyone to answer phones in a suit. If the phone rings, one of us just wipes our hands on a rag and picks it up. Most of our neighbors in the M.I.D.C. are doing similar stuff, so there’s a lot of noise from trucks and heavy machinery all day long. Sometimes we run out of a specific fitting and have to wait for the courier, which can be a bit of a headache. But usually, we just keep grinding away at whatever is on the bench that day.
