Jayvijay Services

Kuberji Mandir Road is where I spend most of my time. Our place, Jayvijay Services, is tucked away in Kharakuva. It’s an old part of town. The streets are narrow and you have to be careful walking around. I open up early because the morning air is cooler. By noon, it gets quite stuffy inside. We handle all sorts of service requests. It’s a mix of things really. The walls are covered in old calendars. I like the one from three years ago because of the mountain picture. Customers come in and talk about their day while I work. It feels like a community here. Kharakuva has its own rhythm. You know when the temple bells ring. I have a small stool I sit on when my legs get tired. The light in the back room is a bit dim. I should change the bulb soon. We have a lot of paperwork piled up on the side table. It’s mostly just keeping track of who needs what. Sometimes the neighbors come in just to chat. We share tea and complain about the weather. It’s not a fancy office with big glass windows. It’s just a practical space where we get things done. I’ve lived around here my whole life so I know most people who pass by. It’s a steady pace and I like it that way. The road is dusty but that’s Kharakuva for you. I lock up the shutters at the end of the day and walk home through the market.
