El Meca Works

El Meca Works is located right behind the railway station. Being that close to the tracks means you hear the trains coming and going all day and night. The ground actually shakes a little when the big ones pass through. Our workshop is a bit of a cluttered place, full of metal scraps, spare parts, and tools that have been used for decades. It’s a place where things get fixed. We have a large sliding door that we keep open most of the time to let the breeze in, though it also lets in the soot from the station. The walls are darkened by grease and smoke. We have a small corner with a table and a couple of plastic chairs where we sit and talk about the day’s tasks. There’s a sink in the back where we wash the oil off our hands, though it never quite all comes off. Working behind the station has its perks, like being easy to find, even if the road is a bit bumpy. We’ve been operating this way for years, and most of the people who come to us are regulars who know the drill. It’s not a place for someone who minds a bit of mess. We just focus on the machines and making sure they run the way they are supposed to. It's honest work and it keeps us busy from morning till late evening.
