Creative Handlooms

We are set up on Bankim Sarani, which is just off Jail Road. It is a relatively quiet spot compared to the main thoroughfares, though you still get the occasional rickshaw or motorcycle passing by. The sound inside our place is mostly the steady, rhythmic clicking and thudding of the handlooms. It is a sound that defines our days and honestly, we barely notice it anymore. The building is an old one, with high ceilings that help keep it a bit cooler during the afternoon heat. We have stacks of yarn in every color you can think of piled up on the shelves and sometimes even on the floor when we run out of shelf space. The lighting is not great, but we have some strong lamps over the looms so we can see what we are doing. We do not have a fancy front window or a display area like the shops downtown. If someone wants to see what we are making, they just walk in and look around. It is a bit dusty because of all the fibers in the air, but that is just part of the process. We have been in this location for a long time and the neighbors all know us by name. We usually take a break in the late afternoon to sit by the door and watch the people go by on Bankim Sarani. It is a simple life and we enjoy the hands-on nature of what we do every day without any big fuss.
