Pawan Brick Feild

Our place, Pawan Brick Feild, is located near Rajput Road in the Manglore area. It is a wide-open space where we have plenty of room for the kilns and the finished stacks. Being near Rajput Road makes it easy for the tractors to come through and pick up their loads. The air out here in Manglore feels different than in the middle of town. It is dusty, but it is a working dust. We start our shift while the dew is still on the ground. You have to be careful where you step because the mud can get deep after a storm. We have a small shack where we keep the logs and take our lunch. It is not much to look at, but it keeps the rain off. We don't use any fancy machinery if we can avoid it. A lot of what we do is just by hand and by eye. We have been doing this for years, so we know the rhythm of the work. The sun can be brutal in the afternoon, so we try to get the heavy lifting done early. We don't go around telling people we are the best or anything like that. We just show the bricks and let them decide. It is a basic business, built on hard work and being out in the sun every day. We don't mind the long hours because it’s what we know.
