Vikki Kirana Shop

Vikki Kirana Shop is a small place on Pandit Clinic Road in the Bartand area of Dhanbad. We are located right near the Middle School, so things get very noisy around lunchtime and when classes end. A lot of kids come in then, looking for pencils or little snacks. The shop is quite humble, with shelves that we built ourselves out of local wood. We sell basic things like salt, sugar, and various types of oil. There’s a lot of dust because of all the construction and traffic in Dhanbad, so I spend a good part of the morning cleaning the jars. The middle school being so close really dictates the rhythm of our day. When it's quiet, I sit and listen to the radio or chat with the neighbors. We don't have any big advertisements or glowing signs. It’s just a name on a board outside. The space is a bit cramped, especially when we get a fresh delivery of sacks. You have to step over things to get to the counter. I’ve lived in Hirapur a long time, so I know most of the families who send their children here. The shop doesn't have air conditioning, just a single fan that wobbles a little. It’s a basic kirana shop where you get what you need for the kitchen without any fuss. We stay open until late evening when the street finally goes quiet.
