Sumit General Store

This is Sumit General Store over in Jharia. We are situated near Katras More, which is always a hectic part of town. It isn't just food we sell here. Since it is a general store, we try to keep a bit of everything on hand. You can find things like notebooks for school, torch batteries, and maybe some plastic buckets hanging from the ceiling. The shop is quite narrow and it goes back a bit further than it looks from the street. I have spent many years sitting behind this counter. Dhanbad is a place that never really stops, and Jharia is right in the middle of it all. The shelves are made of old wood and they groan a bit under the weight of all the tins and boxes. We don't have any staff, just the family helping out when things get busy. Most of the people who come in are regulars who live in the lanes nearby. We know who wants which brand of tea without them even asking. It is a humble way to live, but it keeps us going. Sometimes the rain leaks in a little near the front door during the monsoon, so we have to move the bags of salt. It is just a normal shop for normal people. We don't try to be anything else.
