We are based out in Dhanbad, specifically at the Gopinathpur Colliery in Nirsa. The office is care of R. K. Prasad. Working near a colliery means there is always a lot of dust and the heavy sound of trucks moving in the distance. It’s a rugged kind of place. The building we are in is practical and strong, built to handle the rough environment around here. We spend a lot of time just keeping things running. Everything in the office gets a thin layer of coal dust if we don't wipe it down every few hours. It’s just the way things are in this part of the country. We don't have any soft carpets or fancy art on the walls. It’s just desks, some ledgers, and our old computers. The air can be quite heavy and thick, especially in the summer months when the sun is high. Most of the staff have lived in Dhanbad their whole lives, so we are very used to the industrial feel of the town. We take our breaks together and usually talk about local news or what’s happening at the mine. We don't use a lot of big words or try to act like we’re in some big glass skyscraper. We are just workers in a mining town doing our part. It’s hard work sometimes, but it’s what we know. We close the gates early in the evening and head back to our homes nearby.
