Dhanbad is a place that feels very lived-in, and our shop is no different. It is a small place with white walls that aren't so white anymore because of the coal dust in the air. We open up every morning and put the items out so people can see them. Being near a rest house means we see a lot of people who are just passing through town. They come in for a quick thing and then they are gone. Then there are the regulars who live nearby and stop to chat for a bit. We don't have a big team or anything, just a couple of us who take turns behind the counter. The shop has been called New Shiv Shakti Store for a while now, and it’s just a normal neighborhood spot. We don't try to be anything we aren't. Some days the heat in Rangatand is really bad and we just sit near the fan waiting for the sun to go down. It is a simple business.
