Up here in the PIU-Dhanbad office, we handle the technical side of the highway projects for the region. The manager and the rest of the staff spend a lot of time going over the engineering specs for the roads connecting the coal belt. It’s a gritty kind of job because Dhanbad is a busy, industrial place. The office is often full of engineers talking about bridge heights, soil density, and asphalt quality. We don’t have much time for fluff; it’s all about the technical details and making sure the projects stay on track. The building is a standard government-style setup with rows of files and some old wooden desks. You can usually hear the sound of the city outside, which is a constant reminder of why these roads are so important for the local economy. We work long hours, especially when a new project is starting up or when we have to survey a new stretch of land. There’s a lot of tea drinking and late-night meetings to get through the paperwork. It isn’t always easy, and there are plenty of hurdles with land and logistics, but we just keep at it. It’s a small, dedicated group of people who know the local terrain inside and out and are just trying to get the job finished.
