Laxmi General Store

Our store is located at Baniahir No. 4 in Jharia, which is right near the Indra Chowk. This part of Dhanbad is always a bit dusty because of the coal mines nearby so we have to wipe the counters every hour. We sell all the basic stuff like rice, sugar, and cooking oil. People from the labor quarters come here a lot for their daily supplies. It is a simple shop with a concrete floor and some old shelves we put up ourselves. We don't have any big signs or advertisements. Most people know we are here just by walking past on their way to the chowk. We keep the big sacks of grain near the entrance so it’s easier to scoop out what people want. My hands are usually a bit white from the flour by the end of the day. We have a small television in the corner that we watch when the afternoons get slow. Jharia is a tough place to work sometimes because of the heat and the smoke but we are used to it. We keep things like torches and batteries because the power goes out quite a bit around here. It isn't a fancy supermarket or anything like that. Just a local store where you can get your daily needs without any fuss. We know our customers by name and they know they can get their items on credit sometimes if they are short on cash.
