General Store3

General Store3 is tucked away on Dharamsala Road in the Jharia area of Dhanbad. It’s a bit of a plain name for a shop but it’s been that way for a long time and we never saw a reason to change it. Jharia is a very busy place with all the mining activities and the air is usually thick with coal dust. We spend a good part of our morning just dusting off the jars and packets on the shelves. The shop is small and sits right on the edge of the busy road. It can get very noisy with all the heavy trucks passing by but we have gotten used to it over the years. We sell basic things like soap, snacks, and other household goods. We don't have any fancy displays or expensive lighting. It’s just a functional space for the people who live nearby. Most of our customers are workers from the mines who stop by after their shifts are done. We know them well and often chat about how their day went. We don’t have any computer systems or barcode scanners here. We just know the prices by heart and write everything down in our books. It’s a very manual process but it keeps us busy throughout the day. We stay open until the late evening when the traffic finally starts to slow down. It’s a hard-working neighborhood and we are just here doing our thing every day like everyone else.
