Dal Chinni

If you are walking down Katras Road in Matkuria, you will find our shop called Dal Chinni. The name tells you exactly what we started with, but now we have a few more things on the shelves. Matkuria is a busy area of Dhanbad and there is always something going on outside the door. We have the usual staples like lentils, rice, and different kinds of sugar. The air inside always smells a bit like turmeric and dried chilies because we keep those in open bags sometimes. It is a bit cluttered, but we know where everything is kept. The walls could use a fresh coat of paint, but we are usually too busy to get around to it. Most of the day is spent weighing out portions for the local housewives. We don't have a fancy computerized billing system, just a pen and some paper. It is a practical place for people who just want to buy their food and go home. The traffic on Katras Road can be a nightmare in the evenings, so we try to get things ready quickly for our customers. We have been here long enough to see the neighborhood change, but the need for basic groceries stays the same. It is just a small, honest shop trying to do its bit in Dhanbad.
