Chaursiya Varities

Chaursiya Varities is situated in Katras Bazar in Dhanbad. Katras Bazar is a busy, crowded market place where everyone knows everyone else. Our shop is a bit of a mix of everything, which is why we call it "varities." We have household items, small toys, stationery, and some grocery stuff all mixed together. It is not the most organized place you will ever see. Boxes are often stacked in the aisles, and you have to watch your step. The building is old, and the walls are a bit stained from the monsoon rains over the years. We spend our days dealing with the dust from the coal town and the constant noise of the market. Customers come in looking for specific things, and usually, we can find it if we dig through the back room long enough. It’s a very local way of doing things. We don't have any employees, just us family members taking turns behind the counter. We drink a lot of chai and talk to the other shopkeepers when things are slow. In the evenings, the market gets really packed and it's hard to even see the street. We just keep the lights on and help whoever comes in. It is a humble shop in a busy coal region market, and we just focus on getting through the day's work. Most of the time, the air is thick with the smell of the market, and the sound of bells and horns never really stops until late.
