Anup Kirana Store

This store has been sitting here in Manaitand for a good while now. We are right by where the old Purana Bank Of India used to be, and not far from the Goal Building. Being a kirana store means we see everyone in the neighborhood sooner or later. My morning usually starts with opening up the shutters and dusting the sacks of rice and flour. Dhanbad weather makes everything a bit gritty, so there is always cleaning to do. We keep all the usual stuff people need for their kitchens like pulses, oils, and spices. It’s a small shop, so things are stacked pretty high to make everything fit. Sometimes it gets crowded in the evenings when everyone realizes they forgot to buy milk or sugar for their tea. We know most of our customers by name since they live just a few streets away. It’s not a supermarket where you wander around with a cart. You just tell us what you need and we get it for you. The fan in the corner makes a lot of noise, but it helps when the sun is beating down outside. We don’t have fancy displays or bright lights. It’s just a regular local shop where we try to keep the bins full. Sometimes we run out of things and have to wait for the delivery truck to show up in the afternoon. It’s a simple way to make a living, just being part of the daily routine here in Manaitand.
