Kevil Brass

Our unit, Kevil Brass, is located in No. GIDC, Phase 3 in Kalavad. This is an industrial area, so it’s not the quietest place to spend your day. There is always the sound of metal clanging and machines running from the nearby workshops. Our space is basically a large shed with a high roof. It gets quite hot in the summer months, but we have a few large fans that keep the air moving. The floor is covered in metal shavings and dust from our work. We sweep it up every evening, but by the next morning, it’s back again. That is just the nature of working with brass. We have several workbenches where we handle the materials. It’s a hands-on job and we often have grease on our clothes by the end of the day. There is a small room at the back where we keep our tools and a small stove for making tea. Most of the people we interact with are truck drivers and other workers from Phase 3. We don't have a polished showroom or anything like that. If a customer wants to see our work, they come right into the workshop. It’s a very straightforward way of doing things. We’ve been in Kalavad for a long time and know the rhythms of the GIDC. It’s hard work, but we are proud of what we do here. It’s just a regular local business making its way. We don't bother with fancy offices or secretaries.
